#1 - ability to post
All new members are set at "moderated" status for week. This
is toone
prevent spamming, but it is also to prevent new players from wreaking
havoc on the list.
You will not be granted approval to post until you have been approved
for
a character, and have been on the list for one week. You will also
remain on moderated status until after your character has been approved.
Expect that for the first few days of posting that there will be slight
delays for your post being approved if no moderator happens to be online
at the moment. This will be true for ALL new players, no matter how
much
gaming experience you may have!
#2- Posting for Charcters
No posting for charcters unless it is just for introducing charcters
just
to cut down on oneline post or if a person is leaving and wishes someone
to play their
characters for them while they are gone, please post a message
regarding this on the list. It should be on the list so people don't
ignore the person posting for you thinking that they're breaking the
rules. If a player assigns no one to their characters, then
that/those character(s) will be written into a situation that
separates them from the game but does no permanent damage (e.g.
someone deciding a character is stressed out and should go on a
cruise (which they return from when their player gets back.), or in
the case of a lesser character, perhaps a monster injures them and
they're in a coma in the hospital (which they wake up from when the
player returns.) NPC'ing a character like this is not a good idea
(you know the sayng about too many cooks...) Also most people on the
list
have AOL IM (Instant Messanger) to work out a post offlist or one could
e-mail a post for off list making for a joint post which goes for Rule
#3.
#3- Joint post.
Cocktails For Two: If two people are having a chat or fighting a
monster several miles away while they're waiting to be rescued, and
if both parties have stated that the post is okay (so we know one
person isn't writing for another person's character) then we can
allow joint posts for those. However, if they're in the next room or
present with everyone else when a monster attacks, chances are other
people will want to help fight the most people (keep in mind,
monsters are noisy.)If a player controls two or more charcters, they
can
be post together, just allow for other people to interact with other
charcters. :)
#4 - Dream Sequences
A) Dreams happen inside your head. If you're dreaming about being
someplace and talking with a character, you're really talking to the
memory of that character. So if you fall asleep and you dream you're
talking to Sailor Moon, for example, its okay for you to write her
replies since that's your imagination, not the actual person and it
has no affect of the character in question.
B) Nobody knows what you're dreaming. Don't post something about a
dream you're in the middle of having and then expect another
character to respond to it. If you're dreaming it, and you haven't
woken up to tell people about the dream, how do you expect them to
know what you're dreaming? Remember the dream version of the
character is in your own head, its the person as your character
perceives him/her. You control your own thoughts, and a dream version
of someone is your own thoughts.
C) Label all dream sequences with [Dream] in the header so people
will know that it is a dream sequence and not you controlling their
characters. Anything labeled as [Dream] should be read, in case the
dream affects the dreams POV about someone, but the person being
dreamed about should keep in mind that the non-dream thread is the
one he or she should follow since those are the actual events
happening to them.
Example: If Squall is dreaming about Laguna (e.g. if he's out cold
and
seeing through Laguna's eyes.) then those people in Laguna's vicinity
would respond to Laguna since he's in the real world, but not to
Squall because he'd be only speaking in Laguna's head. They'd know
he wa talking becausee Laguna would alert them by saying "Oh! The
faeries are here!" or something similar, but they wouldn't know
what
Squall was saying unless they asked Laguna. Just be really careful
when you do ask. Laguna's a motor-mouth.
#5 - Admin posts
If a post arrives on the list with the words "ADMIN" in the
header, and
it's from one of the moderators (by now you should know who we are),
then
READ THAT POST FIRST! Even if other posts arrived BEFORE that one, that
post may be overriding something in one of the prior posts. ALWAYS read
Admin posts, and always read them FIRST. If an admin post is ignored,
the player WILL be put on moderated status, and if it continues, will
eventually be banned for ignoring the rules.
#6 - "That didn't happen" - moderator's override
If a moderator feels that a particular post is unreasonable in any
manner, a "that didn't happen" may be placed on the post.
Generally the
word "ADMIN" will be placed in the subject header, to let
other players
know to read the Admin post first, and know not to respond to the
ill-conceived post. If a moderator says your post didn't happen, then
it
didn't happen. Please don't argue it. The list could degenerate into
arguments, but it's likely that if you argue too often, you'll get set
to
moderated status or removed completely. This doesn't include teasing.
Many of the players on the list are friends and will tease one another,
although we will try to keep it offlist when that happens.
#7 - Honest is mandatory!
Honesty to the moderators is mandatory. If you have an evil character
that is going to show up and act like a good guy to fool everybody,
the
moderators must be made aware of this. Lying to moderators equals
automatic banning. Also, don't lie about what you intend for your
character when you create it. Don't weasel around creating a
super-powerful character just because you want a super-powerful
character. If it's discovered that was your intent, you WILL be banned
immediately.
#8 - regarding one-liners
No one-liners! This is a story-telling list; long posts are the rule,
not the exception. The problem with one-liners is that although they're
easier for the player that posts them, they're extremely difficult to
reply to for other people. Instead of just a reply of something like:
Amy said, "Yes."
Try something like:
Amy nodded nervously, chewing her lower lip. She glanced
self-consciously at Gohan, wondering what he would say. "Yes,"
she
stammered out anxiously. "Why do you want to know?"
In other words, be descriptive, try to be open-ended, try to leave
openings for other characters. It doesn't have to be with a question,
it
can be with an action as well. This will improve your writing skills,
your RPing skills, and most of all, make the list more fun for everyone,
including yourself. :-)
By the way, in the above example, even the second one would be considered
a "one-liner". Try to make the post at least a reasonably
sized
paragraph, more than just 5 or 6 sentences long. Multiple paragraphs
is
preferable, but not always reasonable to expect.
#9 - ignoring other player characters
Don't ignore the presence of other player characters in the area. For
example, if the senshi encounter a demon and Goku is standing right
there, don't type out the entire scene as though the senshi defeat the
demon without any interference from Goku. That would be OOC for Goku
to
stand there doing nothing, and it's rude to the other player. If you
do
that, I'm likely to do a "that didn't happen" for the entire
post, or at
least the ending, and allow the other players to make moves.
RULES FOR CHARACTERS:
RULE NUMBER ONE: NO GOD-LIKE CREATED CHARACTERS
No created characters based on a series may be more powerful than the
main characters from the series. That means no Sailor Senshi may be
created that is more powerful than Sailors Moon, Mars, Mercury, Jupiter,
Saturn, Pluto, etc. No DBZ-based characters may be more powerful than
any of the Zed warriors, human or non. (With the exception of a created
Saiyan, who *might* obviously be more powerful than the humans, but
NOT
more powerful than the other Saiyans. And even that won't *always* be
true. Early DBZ Radditz wasn't more powerful than DBGT Krillin, for
instance, so there are weaker Saiyans.) No Ranma 1/2 character would
be
more powerful than any of the major Ranma 1/2 players. (This includes
Ranma, Ryouga, Shampoo, Mousse, Kuno, Ukyo, Tarou, Cologne, or Happosai.)
RULE NUMBER TWO: NO GOD-LIKE NON-CREATED CHARACTERS
No character from a series may be played if it's deemed that character
is
simply "too powerful". That means no gods, demons, Mazoku,
or anything
else deemed overly-powerful. This is entirely at the moderator's
discretion. If a moderator tells you that a chosen character is too
powerful, then simply accept it, and choose another character. I can
tell you with absolute certainty that NO ONE will ever be allowed to
play
any gods, Mazoku from Slayers, or other omniscient or omnipotent beings,
except as temporary characters (i.e. one or two posts) to start something
or move something along. And this MUST be with moderator approval in
advance, with FULL DISCLOSURE of what you intend to do beforehand!
RULE NUMBER THREE: CHARACTERS CAN DIE
If a character gets him/herself into a situation where he would die,
then
he will die. For example, if a character gets into a situation where
he's attacked by Piccolo's Makanokosappo, and for some reason he cannot
dodge, then he WILL DIE. (That attack killed Goku, and it's extremely
unlikely we will allow a character more powerful than Goku in the game.)
RULE NUMBER FOUR: DESCRIBING YOUR CHARACTER
If the moderators are unfamiliar with the anime that a character you
request is from, or are familiar with the anime but not that specific
character, they will ask you to describe your character. Please be
DETAILED about it. Describe powers, personality, description,
motivation, anything you can think of. The more descriptive you are,
the
more likely you will be approved. If the moderators have to keep asking
for clarification, then it means that either they feel that your
character seems too powerful, or that you're not describing it very
well.
If you have a particular expectation about a character, and you haven't
described it to the moderators that way and they think it's something
else, then if you post one way and the moderators expect something else,
they're unlikely to allow those posts to go through, or they'll do a
"this didn't happen".
Rule Number Five: LIST YOUR POWERS
When a charcter upgrades or gains new powers, please list the powers
or
abilities to the moderators for aproval with the description of powers.
Rule Number SIX: Learning New Powers
Learning: If a character learns a new attack during the game,
that's fine. But it must be documented in the game before another
attack takes place. No suddenly knowing a move that just happens to
be stronger than the monster. The idea behind this is so that people
will have to fight the monster together rather than one person keeps
saving the day while everyone stands around in awe. There are four
ways to learn an attack:
a.) another character can teach you the attack.
b.) if an FF7 character loans you an enemy skills materia (but
these attacks can only be acquired in battle and chances are your
character isn't likely to be able to do it as effectively as the
monster did.)
c.) in the case of FF8 characters, or anyone junctioning a GF,
after a GF gains X amount of AP, it will learn a new abilty, which
the junctioned character can then use. Again these abilities must be
posted before any future battle.
d.) In the case of a Sailor Senshi, the charcter must be of the same
element and similar Planet alignment to learn the other scouts attacks.
Example: Sailor Phoenix has a fire base, which means that she could
learn
a few of Sailor Mars attacks because of them sharing a common element.
RULE NUMBER SEVEN: THERE IS NO RULE NUMBER SEVEN
Yet. :-) But there may be someday, as events transpire.
